Half a mile of river shifts course for HS2 tracks

A MIDLAND river has been moved to make way for the new high speed rail line.

Major works east of Birmingham for the HS2 line have now been completed and the scheme saw 749 metres of the River Cole, close to Coleshill, redirected.
Construction of the Birmingham spur at the Delta Junction required a stretch of the waterway to be permanently 'relocated' to accommodate two fresh viaducts and multiple railway embankments, according to HS2 officials.
Excavation finished in 2024, with temporary barriers subsequently dismantled to permit water to flow through the newly created river channel.
