Fans need a sense of perspective

WHAT a fantastic day at Wembley on Sunday, apart from the result, of course. It was a time to celebrate Blues clinching the League One title and catching up with so many friends I have not seen for some time.
-
But the highlight was chatting with Blues fans outside the stadium before the game. Lots of smiling faces, knowing their team were back in the Championship at the first attempt, not only as champions but still with the opportunity to record a record points total. While basking in the knowledge the future is bright.
At the start of the season the number one objective was promotion and that has been achieved in style. The manager and team deserve the utmost credit for that.
Losing to Peterborough was disappointing, as it is when your team loses any game, and every single Blues fan wanted to win. However, full credit to Posh for scoring two fantastic goals.
Peterborough defended brilliantly and it was only the last ten to 15 minutes that Blues really looked a threat in front of goal. The save their keeper made was also world class and, who knows, with ten minutes to go what would have happened. But no complaints, Peterborough deserved their win.
What amazes me is the reaction to the defeat from some Blues fans. They pay their money and are entitled to be disappointed and critical of any performance, but the “we are all doomed” negativity of some leaves me wondering about their lack of understanding.
This is not fantasy football or some computer game, this is real life, and despite it being a big disappointment to the near-50,000 who travelled to Wembley, it’s football and results like that can, and do, happen.
Losing does not mean everything is suddenly wrong with the club, nor does it mean next season in the Championship is certain to be a disaster.
