Cafe was shut down after mouse scurried past council inspector

A BIRMINGHAM Caffe Nero had to be shut down after a mouse ran past an inspector and nearly 100 droppings were found on a single shelf in an area where tongs and paper serving bags were stored.
Nero Holdings has now been hit with a £60,000 fine for the conditions at its branch in New Street Station.
The company apologised for the issues, which date back to January last year, saying they were “isolated” and have since been addressed.
The branch was allowed to reopen after a few days and currently has a ‘good’ hygiene rating on The Food Standards Agency wesbite following a re-inspection in June 2024.
Nero Holdings admitted three offences under the Food Safety and Hygiene Regulations after being prosecuted by Birmingham City Council.
