Alfie was the hardest goodbye, admits boss

CHRIS Davies says the decision to sell Alfie May to Huddersfield was the 'hardest' he has made in his tenure as Blues manager.

- By ALEX DICKEN

May was one of the most influential players in Blues’ record-breaking League One season, scoring 16 goals and providing nine assists across all competitions, but the club are striving for back-to-back promotions and a higher calibre of player has been signed.

Japan international Kyogo Furuhashi has joined from Rennes and Davies already has Jay Stansfield at his disposal. Links to German target man Marvin Ducksch suggest another striker is very much on Blues’ radar too.

May was desperate for a crack at the Championship but his chances of regular football at St Andrew’s would have been slim.

Opening up on the 32-year-old’s departure, Davies told the Birmingham Mail: “It was one of the hardest decisions I've made, or situations, since I've been here. I've got great thanks to Alfie for his service to the club and what he did for us as a team and the way he worked for me as a manager.
