Locals urge action on Koh Phangan
Koh Phangan's tourism has grown rapidly, but local authorities and business operators are raising concerns over the behaviour of some Israeli visitors and the rise of foreign-run businesses on the island.
Reports of tensions have emerged on Koh Phangan and neighbouring Koh Samui in Surat Thani province, involving Israeli tourists and business operators.
Allegations include the acquisition of land through Thai nominees and the establishment of tourism-related businesses catering exclusively to Israeli visitors. Some tourists have reportedly caused disturbances affecting other visitors and local operators, prompting fears of wider conflicts.
