MFA slams Cambodia over blast
Bangkok Post
|January 09, 2026
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) condemned a recent incident involving Cambodian forces in Ubon Ratchathani and said Thailand has formally protested to Cambodia, demanding accountability and an official apology, while rejecting accusations of territorial encroachment.
MFA spokesman Nikorndej Balankura said at a press briefing that on Tuesday, Cambodian forces fired into Thai territory in Chong Bok, injuring a Thai soldier.
He said Thailand exercised restraint and did not return fire. Instead, Thai authorities immediately contacted their Cambodian counterparts through established communication channels to clarify the situation, in line with the joint statement agreed at the Thai-Cambodian General Border Committee (GBC) meeting.
