Light attack planes go into service
Bangkok Post
|September 06, 2025
The Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) has commissioned eight AT-6TH light attack aircraft into active service at Wing 41 in Chiang Mai, enhancing its capabilities in border patrols and anti-narcotics operations.
RTAF chief ACM Panpakdee Pattanakul said Thursday the eight AT-6TH purchased from the United States have officially entered service, replacing the retired L-39ZA/ART fleet.
He said the procurement was conducted under an Integrity Pact with Textron Aviation Defense LLC in November 2021 to ensure transparency and accountability.
Beyond strengthening national security, he said, the project also demonstrates US-Thai defence cooperation and serves as a model for future acquisitions.
