Let's hope 2026 is not too amazing

Well here we are on the fourth day of a brand new year.

I trust everyone is holding up well after the festivities because it can be quite gruelling pretending to behave in a jovial fashion if you are not feeling jovial at all.It is customary at this time of the year for newspapers to make predictions concerning what will befall us in the coming 12 months. We can always rely on a few entertaining tales of crookery to keep us amused. Then there are the inevitable crackdowns and of course a few cock-ups to make it fun.

Let's look on the bright side as we go galloping into the Year of the Horse. Well, not exactly galloping, more likely limping to the knacker's yard. But whatever happens, there is no doubt we are in for another Amazing Thailand year.

Actually it's a bit too scary to even contemplate what's in store. Nonetheless here are PostScript's forecasts for Thailand in 2026 culled from the usual collection of unreliable sources, gossip-mongers, boasters, bluffers, prattlers and tittle tattlers.

January: To launch the celebrations for Year of the Horse the authorities announce a “Happy Horse Week” including the Miss Whinny Beauty Pageant. Among the attractions will be a performance by the highly acclaimed Singing Hooves who will be performing their latest hit: “Neighbours.” There may also be a performance by the Nakhon Nowhere Tap Dancing Gee-Gees that have developed into something of a “colt” group.
