'Occupation' reports not based on facts

- POST REPORTERS

Thailand has rejected foreign media accusations that it has seized Cambodian territory or blocked Cambodian villagers from returning to their homes, insisting all Thai operations remain strictly within its jurisdiction.

The Joint Press Centre on the Thailand-Cambodia Border Situation said recent descriptions by some foreign media outlets of Thailand “occupying” Cambodian land misrepresented both the facts on the ground and the legal status of the disputed areas.

Thai authorities said all actions have taken place either inside Thailand’s sovereign territory or in adjacent zones where boundary claims overlap and remain under bilateral and legal review.

They said none of the measures amount to aggression or territorial occupation.

The aim of Thailand’s operations, the centre said, are to protect civilians, defend sovereignty and prevent escalation along a tense border.
