Gold plunges as higher interest rates loom if war persists

Gold prices sank last week as the dollar strengthened following a report that the United States would deploy extra troops in the Middle East, fanning concerns of higher oil prices, inflation, and with it, higher interest rates.

The afternoon fixing on Friday in London was $4,562.55 an ounce, compared with $5,044.60 a week earlier. Thai selling prices were quoted at 70,450 baht per baht-weight (15.2 grammes), down 6,850 baht from the previous week.
