Geopolitical tension spurs safe-haven demand for gold

Gold rose to near a one-month high on Friday and was headed for a seventh straight month of gains, supported by geopolitical tensions as US-Iran nuclear talks remained inconclusive, while softer US Treasury yields further boosted bullion.

The afternoon fixing on Friday in London was $5,222.30 an ounce, compared with $5,053.20 a week earlier. Thai selling prices were quoted at 77,600 baht per baht-weight (15.2 grammes), up 2,500 baht from the previous week.
"There's a lot of nervousness surrounding geopolitics. You have all the setup for a high probability of a military operation, so it’s a risk-off in a flight to safety," Phillip Streible, chief strategist at Blue Line Futures, said on Friday.
