EC spots irregularities, including ballot stuffing

The Election Commission (EC) reported a series of disruptions and irregularities across multiple provinces, including torn ballots, misplaced candidate lists, alleged ballot-stuffing by polling staff and suspected cases of vote-buying.

At a mid-afternoon briefing on the conduct of the election yesterday, Sub Lt Phasakorn Siriphakayaporn and Pol Capt Chanin Noilek, deputy secretaries-general of the EC, said morning voting proceeded actively at nearly 100,000 polling stations nationwide. However, several incidents caused inconvenience to voters, they said.

Sub Lt Phasakorn said some voters were drunk when arriving at polling stations, and in certain provinces ballots, were deliberately torn. In such cases, the EC instructed polling station committees to file police complaints.
