Global consultancy Differential warns of service gap

Thailand’s after-sales sector has reached a turning point as customer expectations outpace service development.

The automotive landscape is undergoing a fundamental shift, but the real battleground is no longer just on the showroom floor — it has moved to the service bay.

According to the 2026 Thailand Service Customer Experience Index (Service CXI) Study, the industry has entered a “new phase of competition” where traditional hospitality is no longer enough to satisfy increasingly tech-savy and demanding car owners.

The annual study, conducted by global consultancy Differential, reveals a sobering reality for manufacturers: despite technological advancements in vehicles, overall customer satisfaction with after-sales service has actually dipped.

The industry average score fell to 891 points out of 1,000, a two-point decline that signals a growing “execution gap” between what brands promise and what they deliver.

LEGACY BRANDS HOLD THE LINE

A key factor in the high satisfaction scores of legacy brands is their sheer physical presence.

Established Japanese brands — including Toyota, Honda, Isuzu, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Mazda and Suzuki — together with America’s classic Ford brand, have maintained a longstanding presence in Thailand.

This dominance is supported by extensive nationwide authorised dealer and service networks that have been cultivated over decades.

These manufacturers invested in large-scale local production for decades, reinforcing Thailand’s long-held global reputation as the “Detroit of Southeast Asia’

This infrastructure is reflected in the 2026 rankings, where brands with the most “boots on the ground” continue to dominate the top tier.
