Allan McLuckie hopes Auchinleck’s second West of Scotland Cup triumph in three years will set them up for a glory run next season.

Talbot beat Largs 2-0 at Broadwood on Sunday with goals from Kyle McAvoy and Connor Boyd to add to their silverware haul.

Bot No 2 McLuckie declared:"It’s great to get another cup and for the young players who won a trophy for the first time so hopefully that will stand us in good stead for next season.

“We weren’t entirely happy with the first-half when we weren't comfortable at times but the second-half was miles better.”

McAvoy, who last week signed a contract extension, nodded Talbot ahead in 16 minutes but they lived dangerously when Will Sewell rattled the post.

Keeper Corey Armour made some key saves before Boyd finished off good play by Alex Nimmo to seal victory with 10 minutes to go.

Talbot, who beat Drumchapel 2-1 in midweek with goals from Boyd (penalty) and Andy Kerr, are back in action on Saturday when they head to Beith.

A game against Kilmarnock on Sunday, September 7 will kick start a testimonial year for the management team of Tommy Sloan and McLuckie.

TROON will try for a back to back double over Gartcairn to hang on to a top three finish.
