Sr citizens to walk 405-km Dandi route

All above 62, covering 25-30 km daily; retd Army officers, civilians to join hands

A group of senior citizens, all aged over 62, will begin an extraordinary journey on January 3, retracing Mahatma Gandhi's historic Dandi March from Sabarmati Ashram to Dandi.

Covering approximately 405 kilometres, the walk will pass through the villages and towns Gandhi ji traversed during the Salt Satyagraha in 1930.

The participants, including retired Armed Forces officers and civilians from across India, stress that the walk is not a political statement or attempt to recreate history. Lt Gen Anil Puri, a former Armed Forces officer and one of the participants, said the goal is simple. "We want to feel, in our own way, what Gandhi ji may have experienced physically and emotionally."
