A high-level meeting in Gandhinagar on Thursday brought together chief secretaries from Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra, marking a significant step in talks that have gathered pace in recent months through interstate visits and sustained official engagement.

Officials said the discussions centred on both financial settlements and the allocation of Narmada waters, with Gujarat, Rajasthan and Maharashtra seeking a larger share. “Given the age and complexity of the project, multiple legacy issues have surfaced, requiring coordinated resolution,” a senior government official said.
