Students spruce up the veterans' centre
Accrington Observer
|June 20, 2025
A TEAM of 10 King’s Trust students completed a 10-day community project to spruce up Veterans in Communities centre.
The ACCROSS 35 team, linked to Nelson and Colne College's Accrington and Rossendale base in Accrington, were on week five of a 12-week programme to overcome adversity and help them develop skills to improve their future employability potential.
To celebrate the end of the project, the Mayor of Rossendale Coun Michelle Smith and Mayor and Mayoress of Hyndburn Coun Josh Allen and Mayoress Sheena Tyldesley attended a ceremony.
In the now pristine Conference Room at the VIC Centre in Haslingden, the young members explained how they selected the project and what skills they had learnt.
They told a packed room how they sourced donations of masking tape from Lidl and paint brushes from Asda and VIC provided the paint.
They learnt about health and safety and risk assessments and appointed team leaders to co-ordinate daily activities.
