Campaigners get the chance to buy closed-down pub

A COMMUNITY group that has been campaigning to save a pub has the chance to buy it after it was listed as an asset of community value (ACV).
Owner of Hare and Hounds in Clayton-le-Moors, Thwaites Brewery closed the pub on May 11, stating at the time it had worked with its operator over several years in an attempt to make the pub more profitable but to no avail.
A regular customer of the pub, Liam Loughlin, created an online petition to stop the closure and despite gaining more than 700 signatures, the campaign was unsuccessful.
However, Hyndburn Council has confirmed the pub is officially listed as an asset of community value, which refers to a building or piece of land that contributes to the social well-being or social interests of a community.
