Matthew and Brady Tkachuk are prepared to fight for American glory
THE TKACHUKS (NOS. 19 AND 7) DURING A 4 NATIONS FACE-OFF GAME IN MONTREAL IN FEBRUARY 2025
A FEW YEARS AGO, WHEN THE NHL ANNOUNCED that its players would return to the Olympics for the first time in over a decade, the Tkachuk family chat lit up. Matthew Tkachuk, now 28, was in his second year with the Florida Panthers: his team has since won back-to-back Stanley Cup championships. His brother Brady, 26, is a three-time NHL All-Star now in his eighth season with the Ottawa Senators. Their father Keith Tkachuk played 18 seasons in the NHL and represented the U.S. at four Olympics. “We were so jacked,” says Matthew in a joint interview with Brady. “No offense, I don’t really remember much of anything about the last two Olympics without NHLers.”

The women saving America's climate data
A COUPLE OF WEEKS AFTER DONALD TRUMP WAS elected President for the second time, a group of federal data watchers gathered in Denice Ross’s dining room. As chief U.S. data scientist under the Biden Administration, Ross had a clear window into just how much information the government collects—whether monitoring a fleet of ocean buoys to guide safe shipping routes or tracking how vulnerable communities are to disaster—and just how useful it is.

The Risk Report
THE U.K., FRANCE, AND GERMANY—Europe's political core—begin 2026 with weak, unpopular governments under siege from populists on both the left and right, and a Trump Administration openly working to undermine them. None of these countries holds general elections this year, but all three face risks of political paralysis—and maybe lasting damage.
