Jack Hunter’s superb 65th-minute winner ultimately separated the sides, handing Sarll his first win in charge of Pools after taking over in the summer.

For National League South champions Yeovil, it was a step up in class but boss Mark Cooper put the defeat down to a lack of chances created in the final third.

“It was a tight game, they’re a tough team, a team of men,” Cooper said.

“I thought we dominated the ball for large parts without really offering too much.”

Hartlepool started the brighter with Luke Charman heading just over in the first minute.
