MARINERS CAST OUT!

The Non-League Football Paper

MARINE are about to begin their latest adventure of National League North football but boss Neil Young is happy to wait a little longer – he still needs to get some players in!

MARINERS CAST OUT!

It’s not for the lack of trying, of course. Young is one of the best recruiters in the game with last season’s NPL Premier play-off glory at the Mariners the seventh of his managerial career.

It is also a second in three years for the north-west outfit who have had a rapid ascent to their highest ever level.

Last year’s success has seen talents like Sol Solomon snapped up by League Two Tranmere Rovers, while others have been lured away by their rivals.

Throw in a fresh injury for forward Bobby Grant and the broken hand being nursed by last year’s top scorer Fin Sinclair-Smith and it’s little wonder Young says it’s been a challenging summer.

But he won’t be rushing additions ahead of their opener against Oxford City for the sake of it.“We’ve still got to bring in three, four, five players probably,” Young, below, tells The NLP.

“We’ve got plenty of irons in the fire, probably like most people at the moment, but it’s trying to get anything over the line.

“It’s not so much from a financial perspective. There’s an element of that, but more trying to get lads to commit.
