BUOYANT Billy Paynter says it’s a ‘privilege’ to have become the first contracted manager in Runcorn Linnets’ history.
The former Port Vale, Swindon and Leeds striker initially took the reins at the end of March. Previously first-team coach, the 38-year-old stepped up after the dismissal of Dave Wild and successfully guided the Cheshire club to the NPL West play-offs.
The Linnets won at runners-up Leek Town in the semi-finals before losing 2-1 at Workington after extra-time in the final. However, Paynter had done enough to impress and has now been handed a two-year deal.
