An online Summer School on Climate Change and Role of Ocean” was organized by the Global Science Academy GSA), Basti Uttar Pradesh), India on the occasions of World Environment Day on June 5, 2023 BeatPlasticPollution and World Ocean Day on June 8, 2023. In order to promote inclusivity and encourage wide participation, the summer school was made absolutely free of charge.

Summer School on Climate Change and Role of Ocean - Addressed Vital Issues on Climate Change

The Climate Change and Role of Ocean summer school was specifically designed to educate and equip participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to address critical climate issues, such as the hazards of plastic pollution. The programme aimed to provide scientific solutions and raise awareness about the vital role of oceans in mitigating climate change. By actively engaging participants and fostering their involvement, the summer school sought to utilize the acquired knowledge to make a meaningful impact. Besides, participants further enhanced their knowledge with a particular focus on United Nations' (UN) Sustainable Development Goal (SDG)-14, i.e., Life below water and SDG13, i.e., Climate action. The course also emphasized the importance of SDG17, which focuses on Partnerships, while consistently acknowledging the interconnectedness and interdependence of all the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the UN's Agenda 2030.

Also, the summer school aimed to bring together participation by effectively keeping onto the agenda, the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development 2021-2030 with the objective to motivate efforts at improving ocean health by providing the science necessary for sustainable development of the oceans to underpin 'the ocean we need for the future we want. These endeavours were to strengthen associations between students as well as professionals in the fields and to foster networking in the spaces of likely organizations.
