I was brought up in the coal fields of Bilaspur, Dhanbad, Asansol & Raniganj, the eldest of three daughters. In a world that placed its hopes on sons, my grandmother often lamented the absence of one in our family.

My father, however, rejected that notion. He taught us badminton, driving, and insisted I receive the best education—even if it meant sending me miles away to an English-medium school. My mother filled our lives with music and dance, showing me that strength and grace could coexist.
