Hamstead Redwing Analogue Stereo Modulator
Guitar World
|July 2025
THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN modulation effects are often a simple matter of different delay ranges (for example, delay times for flanging effects typically range from 1 to 15ms, while chorus typically uses a 15 to 50ms delay), delay versus filtering (a split signal is delayed for flanging or filtered for phasing), or what is actually modulated (a phaser modulates phase while vibrato modulates pitch).
Many pedals can generate more than one modulation effect — for example, some flangers can be tweaked to provide outstanding chorus effects, like the EHX Electric Mistress and ADA Flanger. Packed with a generous variety of controls and parameters, the Hamstead Redwing Analogue Stereo Modulator is aptly named as it delivers a wide range of modulation effects, including chorus, flanging, vibrato and more.
Build QualityHamstead designed the Redwing in collab-oration with the blokes from YouTube’s That Pedal Show, resulting in a pedal that ticks a lot of the right boxes when it comes to features many experienced stompbox users need or prefer. It's made in Britain (don’t worry — it won’t spontaneously combust like Moss’s fire extinguisher!) using all-analog construction that includes BBD (bucket brigade device) components to deliver classic warmth and depth. Internal switches allow users to customize preferences like effect on/off at power up, stereo or mono input and buffered or true bypass.

HOW TO PLAY THIS MONTH'S SONGS
RELEASED AS A single, ahead of Shinedown's upcoming eighth studio album, this simple, well-crafted song, which was no doubt at least partially inspired by Def Leppard's “Hysteria” and U2's “With or Without You,” has guitarist Zach Myers flatpicking eighth notes with a clean bridge-pickup tone, laying down a repeating eight-bar pattern of ringing chordal arpeggios that share three common tones, with only the bass note changing every two bars.
