Rock band Sons Of Apollo features some of the finest players of the past 40 years. Formed in 2017 the band includes drummer Mike Portnoy and bassist Billy Sheehan (both of whom are currently also playing in The Winery Dogs), former Dream Theater keyboard player Derek Sherinian, one-time Yngwie Malmsteen vocalist Jeff Scott Soto and Ron ‘Bumblefoot’ Thal on guitar. Ron has also played for, among other bands, Guns N’ Roses.
The band leans into progressive rock, but in general, the virtuoso musicians play for the song, and not just to show off their considerable skills. There are some very heavy moments in their numbers, but always powered by a strong sense of melody.
