1. There are no granite islands in the world other than the Seychelles. The Seychelles once belonged to a single continent called Gondwana 200 million years ago. Continuous tectonic movements created the Seychelles and the Indian Ocean that surrounds them.

2. There are 1,374,000 km2 in the Seychelles’ exclusive economic zone, but only 459 km2 are landmass across all 115 islands, which makes up only 0.03% of the total area. Approximately 90% of the population lives on Mahe island, which is the most populated of the islands. The second and third most populated islands are Praslin and La Digue.

3. Two UNESCO World Heritage Sites are located on the islands. A number of UN divisions, including UNESCO, have widely protected the Aldabra Atoll and Vallée de Mai. In exchange for this title, they are legally protected by international treaties to conserve the land.
