Plug-in hybrids provide the best of both worlds for many drivers an electric daily drive, while still being able to do greater distances on a petrol engine. Ultimately as batteries become more efficient, EV ranges increase and the charging infrastructure improves, there will be less call for hybrid models, but for some drivers, a fully electric car is too much extra hassle.

The Range Rover Sport PHEV is one of the best examples of a plug-in hybrid on the market. This luxury SUV has a sizeable 38.2kWh battery on board, which has a WLTP range of up to 76 miles of fully electric driving (60 miles real-world).
