Melissa Gilbert is best known - and loved - for playing Laura Ingalls in Little House on the Prairie. The series made her a household name in the 1970s and '80s.

But when she was 17, Melissa began dating a boy whose star was only just beginning to rise. She met Rob Lowe at US network CBS in 1978, during an appearance on a talk show. He was also on the set - but they didn't start dating properly until 1981, after they bumped into one another again at a Hollywood party.

Now Melissa has opened up about their “tumultuous” six-year relationship in an interview with fellow actress, Jennie Garth, on her I Choose Me podcast.
