MG Windsor EV Pro First Impressions

MG has been quick to update India's best-selling EV with enough features to keep it par for the course and it makes the package even more compelling

The fact that MG’s introductory pricing of Rs 17.49 lakh (limited to the first 8,000 buyers) for the Windsor EV Pro didn’t even last a full day is testament to the car’s popularity. And now, a larger battery pack, new alloy wheel designs, dual-tone interiors and a few additional ADAS features make a familiar package more appealing.
While not much has been changed on the outside except the 18-inch machined alloy wheels and a palette of new colours – like a rich Glaze Red, a soft Celadon Blue, and a sleek Aurora Silver, eagle-eyed observers will notice a subtle “Pro” badge on the tailgate.
Business Class Range
The Windsor EV Pro brings a “business class” level of driving range to the table, with a claimed 449 km range on a full charge from its upgraded 52.9 kWh battery pack, that is up from the 38kWh unit on the standard one and supports fast charging up to 60kW. And while the jury on the real-world range is still out, we could easily extract a range of around 300km with still some juice left on our drive from Guwahati to Umiam lake and back. While I did play around with the drive modes, switching between Normal, Sport, Eco and Eco+, ‘Normal’ seemed to strike the best balance of performance and range. The car feels its liveliest in Sport mode but given the uphill climb with AC on seemed to deplete range a bit aggressively. Normal, on the other hand, delivers ample performance that won't take first-time EV drivers by surprise while going easy on the battery depletion.
