To be brutally honest, I didn't expect to enjoy Borderlands 4. I've bounced off earlier games in the series, not because they were bad, but because they often felt like that one friend who tries way too hard to make you laugh. Yet, a few hours into this one, I found myself actually falling in love with Borderlands all over again. That says a lot about where this series has gone. The latest title is still absurd, drenched in sarcasm and bullets, but it finally feels like Gearbox remembered what made the original games fun. It's a reset of sorts–not a revolution, but a clear attempt to remind fans what “Battlefield” used to mean before it got too flashy.
