His stellar play in these leagues earned him a spot in the South African Schools team, further cementing his reputation as a promising talent.

In 2017, Willemse made his professional debut with the Stormers in Super Rugby. His debut season was characterised by his flair, speed and game-reading ability, quickly making him a fan favourite.
