Beit-ul-Aman provides compassionate care for the elderly - rooted in an Islamic ethos
-
Tucked away in the heart of Wynberg, Cape Town, Beit-ul-Aman is more than just a care facility - it's a safe space that provides residents with peace and comfort.
As the only Muslim-run old-age home in the Western Cape, this registered NGO has quietly carried the hopes, stories and needs of its residents for over four decades.
The home opened its doors in 1978 under the auspices of the Bureau for Muslim Family Care (BMFC), which itself was founded in 1965 with a mission to care for destitute aged individuals and orphans. When the land was secured from the city council, the vision was clear: to provide a safe, culturally sensitive space for elderly Muslims.
Heritage and heart
“Our vision is to be a world-class provider of care for the frail and elderly in need, through our value system of integrity, respect, accountability, transparency, care, discipline, equity and nondiscrimination,” says Suhair Solomon, chairperson of the board of Beit-ul-Aman.
“This is encompassed in our mission to establish and maintain Islamic-oriented accommodation, compassionate care and nurturing facilities for the aged and the frail. As an extension of their family's care, we employ staff, including nursing and general workers, and administer the facility in a caring and cost-efficient manner that upholds the dignity of all its residents.”
