All the reasons why you should start boxing - no matter your fitness level!

BLOW byBLOW

South Africa-based Angolan boxer Simon ‘Silverback’ Domingos is a leading name in the local boxing scene. As a trainer, Simon is there at the start of many boxers’ journeys, but he also believes that boxing is a sport anyone can benefit from, regardless of their fitness level, age or gender. The sport is a popular form of exercise all over Africa, and Simon shares four compelling reasons why people should consider lacing up their gloves and stepping into the ring.

It’s a total body workout

Boxing is a full-body workout that engages virtually every muscle in your body. Simon explains that through a mixture of pad work, bag work, partnered drills and sparring, newcomers learn various techniques such punching, footwork and defence. These techniques require the use of your arms, shoulders, core and legs, and sees them all working together.

“Boxing isn’t just about throwing punches,” says Simon. “It’s about using your whole body efficiently and effectively. You’ll feel muscles you never knew you had, working hard.”
