How difficult was it to choose just 100 objects?
When I launched out, I only knew my first and last objects. The first is the Colinda Spear, a 12,000-year-old harpoon that speaks of a time when Britain was still connected to the continent by a land bridge. And the last is a statue from Antony Gormley’s ‘Another Place’ – something that invites questions about our relationship to the rest of the world but also celebrates coastal history. But, for the rest of the book, I was a cork bobbing in the ocean, seeing which way the story took me.
