Moments Made Infinite

After a lifetime of birthing the collision of sumptuously next-level sounds, KIAT looks to the canvas for the pulse behind his artistic heartbeat.
IN THE VAST SEA of endeavour, ingenuity is a tidal wave. Every time I experience what KIAT achieves with sound, whether as a DJ, producer, or curator, I am reminded of what it means to set foot on invigoratingly new and fertile artistic terrain. Kiat is the co-founder of Syndicate, a Singaporean audiovisual collective and record label, now in its 15th year. It is a beacon of possibility whose glow is crucial on multiple levels. Kiat, too, is a lightning bolt of inspiration. As a son of Singapore, he is proof that you can make art on your own terms, here.
On the occasion of his recent exhibition AS-IS, a visual ode to the latent creative power of the present moment as it unfolds in real time, I chatted about how this new medium affects his message.
What does this new collection reveal about where you're at creatively?
Honestly, I didn't set out to make something that would reveal anything. It just came out of where I was at the moment in time, mentally, emotionally, and maybe even physically, in some ways. I wasn't trying to break away from earlier work. It’s more like a continuation with different weather.
