Diving In Deep

WHAT'S IN CHONGQING, CHINA? Striking architecture that bridges past and present, unapologetically fiery cuisine, viral motorbike videos, and the launch event of the new Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean.

Two decades on from its debut, the Planet Ocean returns in a slimmer, more angular evolution of its heritage.

It measures just 13.7mm thick, made possible by the absence of a helium valve and a flat sapphire crystal. The caseback is crafted from Grade 5 titanium with a screw-in design and wave-cut edges. The iconic Omega Seahorse emblem remains, a nonnegotiable symbol of the brand's commitment to ocean conservation, including initiatives like the Seahorse Rescue Center.

Available in seven versions across three colours, blue, black, and orange, the watch is paired with either rubber straps or stainless steel bracelets. The orange ceramic bezel is now even more vivid.

Does this mean that Omega has officially moved from crafting a diver's watch to something more leisurely? CEO Raynald Aeschlimann answers via a Zoom call before the event. “Everything we do starts with our customers. You can have incredible design or technology, but if people don’t connect with it, they won't buy. At Omega, listening has always been our strength. I opened my first boutique over 25 years ago, and that same spirit still guides us today,” he shares. “With the Seamaster line, we saw an opportunity to create a watch that leans more towards lifestyle diving while staying true to its professional heritage. Today's customers value our innovation and Master Chronometer certification, but they also want a watch they can wear daily. By respecting the Planet Ocean's DNA while refining its size and aesthetics, including bolder accents like orange, we've struck a balance between function, elegance, and personality,” he assures.
