We've perused the kitchen trends menu to serve up a plateful of looks Kiwis will love
As one of the most frequently used and publicly displayed spaces in the home, the kitchen is always the subject of speculation by innovators and trend forecasters – and what they’re spotting is hot, hot, hot. We've pinpointed the top three looks that are firing our design desire, plus we've spotlighted additional trends for renovators to feast on, or to garnish an existing space.

The anti-minimalism movement is also behind this cafecore movement, which at its most literal is inspired by iconic Parisian eateries, and more broadly describes a kitchen scheme that chooses character over plain finishes, and taps into traditional and vintage styles. Interior architect Michelle Lamb says, "I have seen a real shift towards more character-style kitchens - the 'lived in' look with the use of organic, textured and natural products and a return to more cosy, layered spaces."
Sociability is the overarching theme here. Just like a Parisian bistro, this is a space for casual connection - albeit probably over Marmite toast rather than croque monsieur - so seating is a must. Think Thonet bar stools or a vintage-style cafe table - or even better, a built-in nook with banquette seating. "Breakfast nooks are definitely back, which highlights a cultural shift too, placing significance on slowing down and dining together as a family. Aesthetically, these are fun spaces that give you an opportunity to play around with quite retro or stylised designs," says Michelle.
