Traditional details and a mix of materials bring a timeless attitude to a new kitchen

Look in the fridge at this new Chicago-area home, and you'll find plenty of expiration dates. But the kitchen itself? It's guaranteed fresh for years to come. Designers Christina Samatas and Renee DiSanto of Park & Oak interior design made sure of it, creating a space built on classic elements rather than the latest trends.

"In any new build, part of the challenge and reward is in creating a space that has character," Samatas says. "We want the home to feel lived-in, warm, unique. So we tried to incorporate unexpected elements that you might not necessarily find in other new builds."
