Power surge ALERT

The constant on/off of electricity supply is making South Africans see red. Being left in the dark for hours and losing production time are among the many challenges of load shedding highlighted by South African consumers on social media platforms. Many have also added the resultant damage to their appliances and devices as a big issue.

Consumers mention damage to appliances and devices

such as fridges, electric kettles, microwaves and washing machines, as well as battery-powered devices, among others.

“The biggest danger or harm is that the PC (printed circuit) boards actually blow up on these appliances. A costly affair as the PC board is the most expensive part in most appliances,” says Margaret Hirsch, executive director at Hirsch’s.
