ART ABODE

Nestled on the second floor of an Art Deco building in Mumbai is a 2,800 sq ft apartment that nods to the personalities of its owners—in their mid 40’s, well travelled, music lovers, art connoisseurs that searched for a designer to create a sanctuary for them amid the chaos of the city. Designed for three generations under the same roof, Nishita Kamdar of her namesake practice took over an unconventional and artful process, “The discussion started with us writing quotes, stories and art that they enjoy, instead of jumping straight to the project requirement and that was a sign of a great start,” the residents note in contentment.

A true art abode by all means, the living room houses a short, red wall resembling a melted candle that guards the rest of the house well enough to maintain the intrigue. Around it, the leather finish Kadappa flooring leads you to the life-sized living room and the calm dining area, lined with a long balcony on one side. Further into the house is the master bedroom dressed in stark black and white, evokes a masculine character. The bed’s backrest, crowned by three peculiar portholes adds to the overall mystery of the room. Here, the bathroom comes with its own Jaisalmer stone basin counter and private entry into the walk-in wardrobe.
