Finding a property that had plenty of charm and character is what drew the owners to this three bedroom semi-detached period property. These period homes are few and far between in Galway, along with the elegance and proportions of the house, the location was a great pull for us. It's situated by the sea in Salthill in Galway, it's a beautiful spot with a lovely stretch of beach and it's very handy to get into town, the character and location was the perfect combination for us,' says the owner. They bought the property back in 2014 and lived in it before they embarked on any restoration. It was great to live in the house before we started any work, it made us very aware of the problems we encountered on a day to day basis, how we lived in the house and when we used the rooms throughout the day. The couple wanted to make the house really functional and practical, so they enlisted the help of interior designer, Lynne O'Loughlin from Tripod Design. 'Lynne really gave us the confidence to work with our ideas and select colours and finishes that really suited the style of the property,' says the owner. The couple needed to update the décor, upgrade the plumbing, heating and electricity, they were also very keen to improve the energy rating and insulation in the whole house and make the layout more functional.
