1 CONSIDER YOUR LIGHTING

Think about the lighting in a restaurant or bar and you can see how important it is to creating an entertaining atmosphere. 'With the right lighting, you can create an inviting setting which casts your home - and your guests - in the best possible light,' explains Jo Plant, head of design at Pooky. 'When entertaining, you should avoid overly bright, direct lighting and include plenty of warm, low-level light from a range of sources, including wall lights, floor lamps and table lamps.' Consider colour-changing LEDs or bespoke lighting that can turn your entertaining space from an upbeat party space to an intimate dining zone, all with the flick of a switch.

2 CREATE AN INDOOR-OUTDOOR FLOW

There is nothing better than hosting guests outdoors and transforming your garden into the ultimate entertaining space. Establishing a harmonious indoor-outdoor flow is key.
