Sit, Stay, Store Paws-itively Useful

Designing a 5'x6' space is no easy feat-especially when it has to function for kids and pets and look good too. Here's how designer Ashley Sharpe made it all work.

Yes, interior designer Ashley Sharpe outfitted her mudroom for the whole family, but really, “it was very much dog driven,” she says. “It’s our muddy-paw interception zone, so we designed it around our dog.” To start, Ashley sketched out exactly how she wanted the builtin to look and function then picked finishes that would blend with the rest of her 1909 Dutch Colonial home.

The Built-In
Ashley designed the builtin to include four hooks and storage baskets (one for each member of her family), a pet station, and a bench. “I even measured the height of Hunter rain boots to be sure they could slide underneath,” she adds.
