Not just a game! Not just a ritual! It is the Marma of Health
-
In childhood, we all heard about “Ganesha Baski.
”In schools, as a form of punishment, children were made to hold their opposite ears with their hands and do sit-ups, which was called “Ganesha Baski.” In the same way, during the Ganesha festival, we also perform it as a vow to the deity. To the general public, this may appear as just a tradition or religious practice. But from the perspective of Ayurveda, Yoga and Marma, there is a deep health secret hidden in it.
Ganesha Baski Thoppukaranam
In Tamil Nadu, Ganesha Baski is called Thoppukaranam. It literally means “holding the ears with hands.” It has been practiced in Ganesha temples as a form of repentance for sins, prayer for knowledge and wisdom, in schools as a form of discipline, and also as a health practice.
Ganesha Baski and Marma Therapy
According to Ayurveda, there are 107 major Marma points in the body. Regular stimulation of these points enhances immunity, balances the vital life force (Prana Shakti), and strengthens overall health.
In the body there are six major chakras, and each chakra is linked to an important Marma point:
- Muladhara - Guda Marma
- Swadhisthana - Basti Marma
- Manipura - Nabhi Marma
- Anahata - Hridaya Marma
- Vishuddha - Kantha Marma
- Ajna - Sthapani Marma (Third Eye)
All these Marmas depend on the brain and spinal cord. Hence, during Ganesha Baski when these Marmas are stimulated, brain activity, memory, concentration, and energy balance are directly supported.

Bone Health Why It Matters Across Your Entire Life
Bone health isn't something that suddenly matters after age 60. Healthy bones are essential from infancy through old age — they support movement, protect vital organs, help regulate mineral balance (like calcium), and act as a reservoir for essential nutrients. But bone strength doesn't stay static: it changes throughout life due to growth, hormonal shifts, lifestyle factors, and aging.
