GARDEN RESCUE — OUR DIARY
Kitchen Garden
|August 2025
Summer has arrived in full splendour at the Walled Gardens at Croome Court, and for Chris and Karen Cronin it brings an overwhelming sense of pride and gratitude
-
This year marks a significant milestone: 25 years since we first began the restoration of this once-forgotten Georgian gem. Looking out across the vibrant beds, full of colour and life, it is almost hard to believe that this place was once little more than a wilderness of brambles and ruin.
Since the official unveiling of the new water garden by Harriett Baldwin MP in May, the gardens have welcomed a record number of visitors, and we are deeply moved by their interest and encouragement. Guests have travelled from near and far to experience the transformation for themselves, taking in the peaceful water features, abundant planting, and the enduring beauty of a landscape that continues to reveal its secrets.
The new water garden is already becoming a visitor favourite. It feels like a natural part of the garden, despite being such a recent addition. The wildlife certainly seems to think so. Ducks glide across the pond, great crested newts have made themselves at home, and the moorhens have returned once again. Every so often, we catch a glimpse of what some guests now fondly call the 'pond serpent', adding a touch of mystery and humour to the tranquillity.Bu hikaye Kitchen Garden dergisinin August 2025 baskısından alınmıştır.

Leggy seedlings
Warmth, low light and a bit too much kindness can all lead to leggy seedlings at this time of year. They stretch, weaken and topple just when you want them to be building strength. The good news is they're rarely a lost cause – and a few simple adjustments will get them back on track
