KUMBULULUKA KWA BAFANA (FLIGHT FOR THE CHILDREN)

In 2016, Felix Gosher created an initiative to provide an opportunity of flight to under-privileged children from various shelters in Johannesburg. With the support of many within the aviation fraternity, this has been very successful. As he is now Zambia based it was only logical that he has would expand this into the African continent. The first ever Zambia Children's Flight held at the Zambia Air Force (ZAF) base in Lusaka on 23 July 2022.

With the incredible support of the Zambian Air Force through the offices of the Chief of the Air Force and many other sponsors, more than 500 children were bussed into the ZAF base in Lusaka to spend the day, taste the joy and freedom of flight. Many corporates as well as private individuals donated their time and resources for this wonderful initiative.

The logistics to ensure a successful day is a mammoth task. All the children needed to be transported, fed and kept hydrated throughout the day. Entertainment in the form of traditional dancing, a live DJ and a funfair playground was the children’s enjoyment package. In addition, one even has to factor in the un-expected, changes in operational requirements as well as aircraft going ‘technical’.
