Soon-to-wed Anoop Kaur and Joban Singh leaned into the time-honoured traditions of their Punjabi identity for their engagement ceremony. The result? Vintage vignettes that look like they were pulled straight out of a movie, finds HASINA JEELANI
-
A young couple soaks in the crisp air of the countryside from their perch on a Jeep, before taking a spin on a wooden swing set. The resulting Polaroids have an intentionally grainy feel, as though plucked from a vintage frame flanking the walls of a haveli. Where cookie-cutter palatial weddings abound with gimmicks, Anoop Kaur and Joban Singh's engagement soars sweetly to a crescendo instead.
As an Ontario-born marketing executive and UK-based businessman, respectively, the couple grew up with a profound respect for their culture. When an accidental Cinderella-esque connection Kaur left her bag in Singh's car after an initial dinner-blossomed into a meaningful relationship, the duo was delighted to discover that their vision for the wedding was cohesively anchored in reflecting the raw essence of their Punjabi identity.
