April - May 2025

The ninth edition of the Geneva-based event placed a strong emphasis on heritage storytelling, ethical sourcing, and inclusive global narratives — themes with direct relevance for Indian players across the value chain. Indian Jeweller reports on what mattered most, and why it should be on the radar of India's jewellery industry.

GEMGENÈVE 2025 OFFERS STRATEGIC SIGNALS FOR INDIA'S JEWELLERY EXPORTERS AND DESIGNERS

The ninth edition of GemGenève concluded on May 11, 2025, at Geneva’s Palexpo, drawing over 250 exhibitors from 22 countries. Now firmly established as a boutique-style tradeshow with global relevance, the event continues to distinguish itself not just through its curation of exceptional gemstones and jewellery, but also through its commitment to progressive themes, such as inclusivity, ethical sourcing, and design equity.

For the Indian jewellery industry, which sits at the intersection of artisanal heritage and international ambition, GemGenève 2025 offered valuable insights into how the global conversation is shifting, and where strategic opportunity may lie.

imageThis year’s thematic focus was the centenary of the Art Deco movement, commemorating 100 years since the landmark 1925 Paris International Exhibition. The fair’s centrepiece, titled “Art Deco: A Legacy of Timeless Elegance”, featured a museum-quality selection of pieces that captured the period’s flair for geometric form, lavish detail, and technical precision.

imageFor Indian brands and designers drawing from architectural motifs and historic influences, the exhibit underscored the enduring appeal of period aesthetics when combined with contemporary sensibilities. It served not only as a source of inspiration, but also as a strategic reminder that heritage, when thoughtfully presented, continues to hold significant market value.
