Nourish Your Soul delves into the transformative lives of eleven saints, offering timeless wisdom and practical steps for spiritual growth.

INTERVIEW Swami Mukundananda Author: Nourish Your Soul

In this interview, we explore their teachings on self-awareness, resilience, and unwavering faith, uncovering how their journeys inspire us to deepen our connection with the divine and lead a life of purpose and devotion.

Nourish Your Soul encourages introspection and growth. What are some practical steps readers can take to foster self-awareness and deepen their spiritual journey?

Self-awareness is one of the fundamental starting points on one’s spiritual journey of inner transformation. It is about understanding our true identity—the real “I”, beyond the material body and mind. As parts of the Divine, we too are divine in nature. Realizing this helps us develop correct values and beliefs. This empowers our higher self to control our lower nature.

Introspection is an excellent way to cultivate selfawareness. It allows us to turn inward and honestly evaluate our thoughts and emotions, revealing our strengths and shortcomings. We become aware of where we are and where we wish to be in our thinking and personality.

Such self-assessment often leads us to contemplate questions such as ‘Who am I?’ ‘What is the purpose of my life?’ ‘What is true happiness?’ ‘How can I improve myself?’ etc. These questions make us aware of our life’s purpose and help us establish beneficial beliefs.

As we grow in self-awareness, we learn to distinguish between our lower tendencies, such as ego and selfcenteredness, and our higher qualities of compassion and love. Such self-reflection helps us make sense of our emotions—what motivates us, and what trips us. Once we become mindful of our emotions, we can then take responsibility for them. For example, “If I am feeling upset, I have not learned to control my mind.” Such awareness leads to the true evolution of the soul.
